May Ellen Mowrey (1932-2015)
May Ellen Mowrey, youngest child of Louis T. and Myrtle May Mowrey was born December 4, 1932 in a little homestead shack out back of the very home she was found in on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 after gently passing away in her sleep in Warren, Oregon on January 27, 2015. She was 82 years of age.
May was very active in the community she lived her entire life; serving others every day in her quiet, faithful manner. Her membership affiliations included the Grange, the International Order for Rainbow Girls, and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She attended grade school in McNulty at the little school on the corner of Bachelor Flat across from the Columbia County Fair Grounds, later graduating High School in St. Helens in 1950 where the current Lewis & Clark Grade School is located. May Ellen continued her education and graduated from the American Institute of Business with a Diploma in Accounting. While attending Business College, she became a member of the Alpha Iota Sorority, which she was a member of for over 50 years. Afterward, she worked a short period of time as a bookkeeper before beginning her lifelong occupation as a Care Giver to others. In addition, she also served for 30 years as a member of the board for the McNulty Water Association as Secretary / Treasurer and as a Community Meals Volunteer since its origin in June 2009.
She is survived by her two brothers, Leonard Mowrey of Longview, Washington and Richard (Dick) Mowrey of Chula Vista, California; as well as nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins.
She devotedly attended the Christian Church of St. Helens, 185 South 12th Street in St. Helens where services will be held for her memorial on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.
