Michael Thomas Hurst's Obituary
The life celebration for Michael Hurst will be held at the family farm in Scotts Mills, Oregon at 10394 S. Butte Creek Rd On August 15th at 2:00 pm. Side dishes or salads will be welcomed. Please bring your own chair. For additional infomration please call 503-543-2459 or 503-750-8106.
Michael, a 6th generation Oregonian, was born in Silverton, Oregon on May 2, 1961 to Roger Hurst & Judith Taylor-Hurst. Mike died July 29 at his family home in Scappoose, he was 49 years old.
Mike graduated from Scappoose High School in 1979. He lettered in basketball, baseball, & golf. He also performed in the jazz band playing the drums. He went on to attend P.S.U.
Mike worked for P & G Thriftway in Scappoose as a department manager. He then worked for Columbia Distributing in Portland. Mike was also a partner with his family at Judy's Fresh Flowers for 25 years. In his spare time he worked as a landscaper, where the local community relied on his many skills.
An avid golfer, skier, hiker & fisherman he loved the outdoors. He also was a steward of the land, reforesting over 4, 000 fir seedlings with his dad on their property. A devoted OSU Beaver and Portland Trailblazer fan, he also enjoyed "shooting hoops" with his nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his father Roger in 1992. Mike is survived by his mother Judy Hurst of Scappoose, Sisters Deborah Hurst of Terrebonne, OR, and Tamara Hurst of Scappoose, OR. Also survived by, nieces and nephews; Sarah & Johan, Nathan, Margaret, Alex, Emily, Anna, and Joey. AFS brother Metin of Istanbul, Uncles Ross Taylor & Cecelia of Scotts Mills, Don Taylor & Grace of Astoria, friend- Dad Alex Porteous, and his loving family and friends.
