Mildred Sherod's Obituary
Millie Sherod of Scappoose, Oregon, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday, April 17, 2011. She was 92.
Millie was born January 9, 1919, in Cleveland, Ohio to Joseph and Marie Najman, who immigrated from Czechoslovakia. She had one brother, Joseph Jr. who died in 1936.
As a child she was active in gymnastics until she became ill at the age of 17 with tuberculosis. She spent the next three years in a T.B. sanitarium fighting for her life.
This is where she met her former husband of 26 years. They moved to California in 1949.
Millie worked various secretarial jobs throughout her life. In December of 1990 she retired from the City of Hayward Animal Control Division after 15 years of service. She then moved to Scappoose, Oregon in 1991 to be close to family.
Millie enjoyed bowling, where she participated in several bowling leagues. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Another enjoyment in her life was weekly visits to the beauty salon to get her hair done and visit with the girls.
Millie was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always remembered everyone's birthdays and anniversaries. She always kept mementos and pictures of every special occasion.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Bert Shutes of Bend, Oregon; daughter Debbie Danny Olsen of Scappoose, Oregon; granddaughter Erika Dean Byrd and great-grandsons Ryan age 17 and Devin age 13 of Deer Island, Oregon; granddaughter Heidi Joe Greiner and great-grandchildren Thomas age 9 and Emily age 3 of Scappoose, Oregon; grandson Lance Olsen of Scappoose, Oregon; grandson Robert Denise Shutes of Vernon, British Columbia; grandson Jamie Donna Shutes of North Vancouver, British Columbia; grandson Brian Sherry Shutes and great-grandchildren
