Murvyn D. Cook's Obituary
Murvyn "Murv" D. Cook was born on November 17, 1916 in Arlington, WA. to William W. & Sophia Bertelson Cook.
He died at his home in Scappoose on April 29, 2009 at the age of 92.
He was the second eldest of a family of nine siblings. He graduated from St. Helens High School in 1935. he joined Portland General Electric in 1937 as a meter reader. He spent four years in the Navy during World War II. He was discharged as a 1st Class Dispursing Petty Officer. He then rejoined Portland General Electric working there for 44 years and retiring as Credit Branch Manager in Portland.
He met and married Patricia Lambert in 1949, they were married for over 59 years. Murv was a talented musician, he played the trombone in the Portland Junior Symphony and with his brothers dance band-The Hal Cook Orchestra. The orchestra played in many venues such as Janzen Beach, Multnomah Athletic Club and coastal sites. He was also an accomplished golfer. During his golfing career he made three hole in ones and shot his age several times-a difficult accomplishment. He loved landscape work and took great pride in maintaining his landscape.
Murv is survived by his wife Pat, daughter Luanne, son Don, daughter-in-law Ann, son-in-law Mark, granddaughters Mariah and Molly and grandson Caleb. He was preceded in death by brothers Harold, Wilbur and Ben and sisters Hazel and Beverly.
Celebration of Life: Friday, May 8, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Scappoose, Oregon
Private family service & interment: Willamette National Cemetery-Portland, Oregon.
