Nancy Ann Backlund's Obituary
Nancy Ann Backlund was born in Portland, Oregon August 8, 1940 to Betty and Delmar Olson of St. Helens. She passed away peacefully on the afternoon of November 2, 2023 in St. Helens with her son, David, holding her hand. It was a beautiful transition.
Nancy was known to many in the area for a warm and beautiful smile. A life long resident of St. Helens, she spent many years working with children in the St. Helens School District. She remarked that in the beginning it was mostly so that she could enjoy the same vacations as her children. As the years progressed she found great joy working with children that needed extra care in the classroom with several talented teachers who became good friends.
She enjoyed many family vacations to Canada and the coast, traditional holiday dinners with family and later travelled to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii and Washington DC. Later on annual trips to Ashland for the Shakespearean festival were the greatest of times with friends.
Her time spent with her sister, Linda, as well as cousins and friends for coffee or dining at the Kozy were precious to her.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Richard, her son David, sister Linda, brother Jack as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beautiful daughter Mary.
A memorial service is being held at the Scappoose church of Christ located at 53987 Columbia River Highway, Scappoose, Oregon on Saturday, December 2, at 1pm.
