I was recently informed of Patrick's untimely death through a forwarded email, hence the late response. Having grown up in Scappoose, I had the pleasure of knowing members of the Dering Family quite well. The Rose gardens were also my source of summer employment, during a recent visit to the Rose Gardens in Washinton Park with out of town guests, my summers out in the fields were a topic of discussion. As a life long racing enthusiast, I got to know Patrick faily well in the 60's when we were racing karts around the northwest. Patrick was a great person and it was unfortunate that their business did not survive. As I moved from Scappoose after college, I lost contact with Patrick. This may be coincidental, as many people can have the same name, but could the Carol Stone named as his significant other be the Carol Stone I know when attending PSU and times thereafter?
