Patrick M. Martyn's Obituary
Patrick Michael Martyn was born on January 2, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois to Charles & Emily Lesniak Martyn.
He died at his home in St. Helens on December 18, 2012 at the age of 59.
Patrick was educated and graduated from Wheaton North High School in 1971. In 1977 he moved from Wheaton, Illinois to Portland. In 1978 he moved to Scappoose and 1982 to St. Helens. He received an Associate's Degree in Fire Protection Technology at Portland Community College in 1990. On October 12, 1990 he married Gail Hodson at the Caples House in Columbia City.
He worked as a self-employed general contractor Brushes & Hammers from 1978 to 1982. He worked at the University of Portland from 1982-89 as Construction Trades Foreman and 1990-92 as Physical Plant Director. In 1984 Patrick started as a volunteer fire fighter with the Columbia River Fire & Rescue; in 1989 he became a fire fighter; and in 2009 he became a fire inspector which he continued to do until 2010 when he retired.
His professional affiliations and civic involvements included: St. Helens Merchant Toy & Joy Distribution, St. Helens Charter Review Committee, and St. Helens City Councilor 2008-12, Oregon Fire Marshals Association Metro Fire Marshals Association, International Association of Arson Investigators, Oregon State Fire Fighters Council, International Association of Fire Fighters, St. Helens Professional Fire Fighters Association, International Code Council, City of St. Helens-City Council and a member of Columbia County Master Gardener Association since 2001.
Survivors include: Wife: Gail Martyn of St. Helens; Son: Ryan Martyn of Bend; Brothers: Paul of Glendale Heights, IL.; Peter of Wheaton, IL.; Parker of Eagle River AK.; Pascal of Phoenix, AZ.; Phillip of Batavia, IL.; Sisters: Phyllis Carroll of Lauderdale, MN.; Pauline King of Bardwell, KY.; Pam Gentz of W. Salem, IL.; and Penny Wing of Wheaton, IL.
