Penny Louise Leader's Obituary
Penny Louise Leader
February 23, 1943 ~ May 1, 2017
Penny Leader, 74, passed away peacefully in her home on May 1, 2017 surrounded by family following a courageous battle with cancer.
Penny was the first of two children born to Maurice and Edna Reaney on February 23, 1943 in Salem, Oregon. She graduated from Franklin High School in Portland, Oregon. Penny married Don Leader in 1963 and the two lived in the Portland area.
In 1970 Penny moved to Warren, Oregon where she raised her five boys. Penny worked in a variety of jobs, until beginning with the St. Helens School District as a cook in 1988, eventually becoming the District Nutrition Director until her retirement in 2009. Penny made long-term friendships with many of her co-workers. After retirement, Penny enjoyed spending her time delighting in her ten grandchildren, gardening, baking and taking care of several aging family members.
Penny was many things to many people, but above all she was a daughter, mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend. We will always love her and miss her.
Survivors include her five sons, Tim, Chris, Ed, Donny and Dave Leader; her ten grandchildren; and her brother Larry Reaney.
A Memorial Service was held on May 5, 2017 at Columbia Funeral Home, 681 Columbia Blvd, St. Helens, Oregon.
