Phylis Rae Hougland's Obituary
Phylis Rae Hougland died peacefully at home early Monday morning, September 15th, 2003 at the age of 68. She was with her friends, Elizabeth and Barbara; and was surrounded by all of her familiar and favorite things.
Phylis was born in Sioux City, Iowa on November 4, 1934. She was the only child to her parents Kermit Ray and Dorothy Wilson Hougland.
Phylis and her parents migrated to Oregon in 1942, and moved to St. Helens in 1948. She was a 1953 graduate from St. Helens High School, and was so happy to have just recently been able to attend their 50th class reunion and be part of the committee.
Shortly after graduating from high school, Phylis went to work for Pacific Northwest Bell, and retired in 1987 with 34 years of outstanding service.
Phylis had a wonderful opportunity to see many places. She travelled to Hawaii, Washington DC, Bermuda, NY, and a Carribean Cruise. Phylis did beautiful toll painting, had quite a collection of stuffed animals, liked to go bowling, and loved to work in her garden.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 17th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at Columbia Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service will be at First Lutheran Church on Thursday, September 18th at 1:00 pm followed by a luncheon, and then a committal service with burial at Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland.
