Raymond F. Zielaskowski's Obituary
Raymond F. Zielaskowski was born on December 6, 1917 in Scofield, Oregon to John & Lusila Ritenour Zielaskowski.
He died at a Portland hospital on February 22, 2009 at the age of 91.
He was a lifetime Oregonian and moved to St. Helens at the age of 5 and first met Beverly Kloak when he was 16 and she was 8, he proposed to her many years later at the St. Helens skating rink, marrying her on June 21, 1943 while on leave from the Navy. He was in the Navy during WWII as a sonar operator from Feb. 20, 1943 until his discharge on November 20, 1945.
After discharging from the Navy he went to work at St. Helens Pulp & Paper plant, stayed on thru the transitions to Crown Zellerbach where he was a pipefitter and then to Boise as a fire chief, he retired in 1984.
He had a passion for building boats, over 200 in his lifetime, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include: Wife: Beverly Zielaskowski of St. Helens; Children: Donna Sheldon of Whidbey Island, WA.; Jack Zielaskowski of St. Helens; James Zielaskowski of Warren; Sister: Shirley Gordon of Yuba City, CA.; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; preceded in death by siblings: Orville, LaVerne.
Celebration of Life: Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Columbia Funeral Home
Private interment: Bethany Memorial Cemetery-Warren, OR.
