Reinhard Jensen's Obituary
On April 20, Sig Jensen passed away the way he lived his life: surrounded by his friends and family.
Though diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007, Sig refused to surrender to the disease, spending the last moments of his life travelling with his wife, Jean Marie, in Mexico.
Sig was born March 27, 1949, in Portland, the third child of seven, to Robert Julius Jensen and Pauline Carson Brooks Jensen. He graduated from Grant High School in 1967, the University of Oregon with a B.S. in Physics in 1973, and Portland State University with an M.B.A. in 1980.
Sig was a passionate athlete. He was a member of the Grant High School track & field team as a high jumper. He continued this sport at the University of Oregon, and throughout his life. One of Sig's proudest accomplishments was winning the gold medal in the high jump at the 2009 World Masters Games in Sydney, Australia.
Sig also competed as a member of the Multnomah Athletic Club Masters Basketball team in national and international events. Basketball was a sport Sig loved dearly and worked to pass on that enthusiasm to youth, volunteering his time to the Skyline school and with the Boys and Girls Club.
Sig had a booming voice, which could be heard as the baritone for the Multnomah Athletic Club singing group, the Mellomacs. He was also a member of the St. Wenceslaus church choir.
Sig's early career included positions at Freightliner, Bingham Willamette, Tektronix and Applied Laser Technology. However, in 1999, his adventurous, inventive, and entrepreneurial spirit lead him to establish his own business, Micron Laser Technology, Inc., where he remained CEO until his death.
Sig is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jean, and his three children, Derek, Greta Laurine, and Reinhard IV "Rei."
Mass will be held at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Scappoose, on Saturday, April 28, at 11 a.m.
