Richard H. McLean's Obituary
Richard H. McLean was born on December 3, 1925 in Hannah, N.D. to Hector & Alta Nickerson McLean.
He died at a Portland hospital on December 27, 2005 at the age of 80.
He was educated in Hannah, N. Dakota and then served in the Navy from March 29, 1944 until April 23, 1946 during WWII. He received a Battle Star in the line of duty.
He married Donna Oberg on September 1, 1949 in Langdon, N. Dakota. They recently celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary.
He was an airplane mechanic after the Navy. He was a shareholder at Brookings Plywood for 20 years. They moved to Columbia City in 1983 and to St. Helens in 1992. He was a shareholder for 5 years at Multnomah Plywood before retiring in 1988.
He was an active member of the Plymouth Presbyterian Church, Past Master of Sidneycroft Masonic Lodge #206 in Brookings, OR; Life Member of St. Helens Masonic Lodge #32, and the Order of the Eastern Star in Brookings. He was also well known for his many hours of volunteer service, including: building and grounds at the church, mowing and watering at the Masonic Cemetery, and serving at the senior center. He also received the prestigious Masonic Hiram Award for dedicated service.
His enjoyments over the years included hunting, fishing, flying his own plane and bicycling 3400 miles last year. However, his biggest enjoyment was his family.
Survivors include: Wife Donna McLean of St. Helens: Daughters and Son-in-Laws: Sharon and James Fraser of Diamond Springs, CA; Karen and Tom Roldan of St. Helens; Sister and Brother-in-law: Dora and Ralph Borgen of Langdon, North Dakota; Grandchildren: Marsea Roldan, Tabitha and Cole Fraser; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing & visitation: 1-5 Thursday, 9-11 Friday at Columbia Funeral Home
Committal service & vault interment: Willamette National Cemetery: Fri. 12/30/05 at 1:00 PM
Memorial service: Monday 1/2/06 at 1:00 PM at Plymouth Presbyterian Church in St. Helens, OR.
