Richard Vernon Jacobus' Obituary
Richard Vernon Jacobus died March 3, 2015, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 15, 1943 in Longview, Washington to Vernon and Mary (Le’Sollen) Jacobus. He grew up and lived most of his life in Rainier and St. Helens, Oregon. Richard served in the US Navy, and then started his career at St. Helens Fire Department where he started as a firefighter working his way up through the ranks to Assistant Chief over a period of 31 years.
Richard also dedicated his life to extending the hand of AA to those who still suffered from the disease of alcoholism. Richard was also an avid runner and loved to ride his bike doing things like Seattle to Portland and The Hood to Coast. Simply said he loved life, family and AA.
Surviving are his wife Olivia Jacobus and daughters; Sheri, Cindy, Debbie, Tiffany, Shannon, Malisa, and Malinda. Brothers; David, Michael, John and James. Sisters; Theresa, Rita, Mary and Dorothy. There are also 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his son Daniel, brother Francis and sister Carmen.
A Celebration of Richards’s life will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Warren Community Fellowship ~ 56523 Columbia River Hwy, Warren, Oregon.
In Lieu of flowers Richard asks that contributions be made to the St. Helens Alano Club.
Richard was one of the founders and a supporter of the club in St. Helens.
