Richard Scott Sue's Obituary
Richard Scott Sue was born on June 27, 1944 in Portland, Oregon to Quong Bue "Harry" Sue & Lillian McKenzie.
He died at his home in Scappoose on June 7, 2010 at the age of 65.
Richard started boxing at the age of 16 entering Golden Gloves amateur tournaments in the Portland area. Showing he was a natural Ritchie "Sweet" Sue had 60 victories our of 65 bouts. Known for his incredible work ethics trainer Bill Lardos and manager Jacke Bracke had to watch Richard to make sure he didn't train to hard. Richard would alternate running or biking to work and home every day, rain or shine. Ritchie became a formable opponent working his way to being ranked no. 1 in the world in the featherweight division. Out of his 94 bouts won Ritchie knocked-out 45 of his challengers.
He was married to Geri Repp on September 13, 1967. They had two sons, Torey and Travis, which added to Richard's sons Tony and Richard "Peanuts". Richard instilled the importance of respect, honesty and kindness in his sons and then his Grandchildren. His son's dedication to their families and community is a testament to their Father and the values he taught them.
Never a man to sit on the sidelines Grandpa Sue was always in the middle of the Grandkids, showing then how to box, play pool, play dice and making them giggle. He delighted in being a Grandpa and did it well. Grandpa Sue was the biggest kid of them all and the Grandkids loved it. He left his Grandkids with memories that will always be with them. Richard became a Great-Grandpa in April of this year.
Although Richard had humble ways, he was truly larger than life. His ornery grin, the twinkle in his eyes and the laugh that poured out when he thought something was funny is something we will always remember. His dedication to his family, big heart and caring ways will be with us forever. Anyone who knew Richard for even a moment was truly in the presence of a great man. Richard will be missed more than words can express.
