Dad had a heart of Gold, his door was open to all whome needed shelter, and his table always had an extra place for those who were hungry. He expected nothing less from us kids as we got older and I hope that we haven't disapointed him in this aspect. He taught us to look for the good in all people, (This is a trait that my sisters posess but I on the other hand, is another story. )
He taught us to own our actions, be they good or bad. At the age of 12, I was given the task to direct the local butcher as to what animals were to be harvested. Well I screwed up and had a cow killed which two weeks prior had given birth. It then became my responsability to bottle feed this new calf every two hours day and night until he was able to graze on his own.
He taught me to repair all sorts of things, how to care for my tools. (Even though he swore that we should have several screwdriver trees in the yard) It took me a long while but I finaly got the hang of it.
Dad was very well respected amongst his peers and co-workers. I have tried to follow in his footsteps and learn to be the man that he was, and let me tell you that those shoes are too big to fill.
