Robert "Bob" Ronald Gedlick's Obituary
Robert Ronald Gedlick lived in Columbia City, Oregon. He passed away on October 13, 2023, at the age of 92 yet, he thought he was much younger. Robert, or as most know him, Bob, was born in Portland, Oregon February 27, 1931. His parents were John and Marie Gedlich. He attended Forest Grove High School and joined the United States Coast Guard at the age of 17. He fell in love with Delores Vawser and they got married on August 30, 1952, in Scappoose, Oregon. They were married 62 years before her death in 2016.
Bob served in the USCG for 20 years as a part of search and rescue before he retired as a chief. He was stationed in many coastal stations along the Oregon Coast as well as one of the last families to live at the Cape Meares Lighthouse in Tillamook, Oregon. He was then transferred to Long Island, New York, the Philippines and back to New York where he was stationed in Buffalo and oversaw the Great Lakes.
After he retired from the military, he focused on his family with Delores. They first lived in Scappoose but later moved to Cove in Eastern Oregon in 1980 before moving and living the rest of their lives in Columbia City. Bob became a very active member of the Masonic Lodge in 1967 and was even recognized as a Grand High Priest by the Grand Chapter Masons of Oregon. He had a never-forgetting love for hunting and fishing. His gunsmithing and woodworking were 2nd to none, and he will be remembered as a man with great stories, he loved to tell those memories to anyone with an ear.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Delores and will live through their children: Robert Gedlick Jr., Kathy Kelley, James Gedlick, and John Gedlick; two siblings John Gedlich and Peggy DeWolfe; 11 grandchildren, and 9 greatgrandchildren.
In Lieu of flowers, please send donations in Roberts's name to The Shriners Hospital for Children.
