Robert Clayton Brown's Obituary
Beloved husband and father, Robert C. “Bob” Brown of Columbia City, born December 29, 1918 in Portland, Oregon to Gus and June Brown, passed on September 4, 2014 in St. Helens at the age of 95.
Mr. Brown and his wife Ethel were married on September 17, 1949 and would have soon celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy during World War II, serving 8 years on the USS Idaho, in the Philippines, in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska and on several bases around the United States. After he was discharged from the Navy he began working at the Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill (which later became Boise Cascade) he spent 35 years there much of the time as a supervisor, well thought of by his crews. He retired due to illness in 1979. He and his wife built a cabin at Ocean Park, Washington and enjoyed traveling a great deal in their retirement.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife Ethel, daughter Cheryle Peterson of Beaverton (son-in-law Bob. granddaughters Christena, Emily and Genevieve, and grandson Daniel), daughter Sandy McMillan of Columbia City (son-in-law Ron and grandson Zach), great grandchildren Kelsey, Atom, Gracie, Maggie and Sofie, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leonard Brown of California, sister June Johnson of Georgia, and son-in-law Vince J. C. Boylan.
A Memorial Service will be held September 12, 2014 at 2:00pm at Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens, with a reception immediately following at the Best Western Oak Meadows Inn,
585 S Columbia River Highway, St. Helens.
