Robert Sherman Fanning December 4, 1937 ~ July 10, 2017
Robert Sherman Fanning passed at his home on July 10, 2017at the age of 79 due to complications from diabetes, strokes and COPD. He is survived by his loving wife of 40+ years, Kay Fanning. His 4 children; Lynda, Robert Jr., Kevin and Tery Fanning and 3 step-children; Danny, Patty and Jim Friend along with 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren also survive him.
Bob served in the US Coast Guard from 1957 to 1963. He moved his family from California to St. Helens, Oregon in 1969, where he remained a resident for 48 years. He worked for the St. Helens Park Department from 1974 to 1998. Most will remember him as the caretaker of McCormick Park, keeping our ball fields in great shape. After his retirement from the Parks Department, he worked at Manheim Auto Auction for 10 years before finally fully retiring.
Bob enjoyed camping, bowling, 4-wheeling and he always loved hearing and telling a good joke. He is loved and will be missed by many.
A Celebration of Life potluck/bbq will be held at McCormick Park at 1:00 PM on July 22, 2017 for all who wish to attend.
