Obituary for
ROBERT GORDON SIMPSON
A Celebration of life Gathering will be held for Bob Simpson at the St. Helens Elks Lodge on Friday, August 13th at 4:00 PM. Bob passed away in Portland on August 6th. He was 81 years old.
Bob was born July 30, 1929 at Deer Island, Oregon to William Gordon and Annie Berry NAN Sharp Simpson, he was the fourth oldest of 6 children. Bob graduated from St. Helens High School in 1947 and a year later married June Ilene Roth. June preceded Bob in death in 2009. He worked for Boise Cascade after 25 years as a maintenance mechanical Inspector. Bob also served in the USAR for over 25 years and retired as an MSG8.
Bob was a charter member of the St. Helens Elk Lodge #1999 with over 55 years of service, Past Elk of the Year and held numerous offices. He also is in the Oregon Trail Lanes Bowling Hall of Fame and Sportsman Award. Bob loved to be with family, camping, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his sons; Gordon L. Simpson and Terry A. Simpson both of Yankton, siblings Nanetta Nan Mallory, Richard Simpson, both of St. Helens
7 Grandchildren; Angela, Alisha & Scott Simpson, Kyley Moore, Kyra Harrell, Kevin & Chris Jones, 8 great grandchildren & several nieces and nephews.
Bob is preceded in death by siblings William and Leonard Simpson and Mary Ann Baker.
Remembrances can be made to either the Elk's Eye Clinic or to the Hopewell House.
