I was shocked to find out that Bob Israel had passed away so young. I joined the Sea Scout Ship Oakland of Oakland and Bob was Chief Boatswain at the time. As a young man he showed great leadership skills both on land and on the water. I remember one occasion during a summer cruise that our sailboat, Vega, had to anchor in Honker Bay during a fierce windstorm. The next morning the boys were exhausted and hungry so when the Skipper managed to sail into a local harbor, he called Bob to come pick them up. They managed to cram 16 people into Bob's '54 Chevy sedan. I was witness when they all got out at the Crockett Sea Scout Base.
Fond memories.
