Robert Alan Shadley's Obituary
Robert Alan Shadley, 72, of Columbia City, Oregon, succumbed to a long battle with liver cancer on November 24,2023 at the Portland Veterans Hospital. He spent his final days surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
As a lifelong member of Columbia County, Robert attended St. Helens High School before entering the US Army at the age of 17. He would go on to serve in the Vietnam War before returning to Columbia County where he would raise his family and begin a career with Boise Cascade that would expand over 38 years. Robert was an avid outdoorsman and a lifetime member of the Oregon Hunters Association. His hunting and fishing adventures took him far and wide including Alaska, Canada and New Zealand to name a few. Once retired in 2010, he filled his days tinkering at his 40-acre family farm in Yankton. On any given morning, you could find him at the farm with his cherished puppy dogs, visiting with family, friends and neighbors.
Robert is survived by his wife, and high school sweetheart, Sharon. His children include Michelle Shadley, JR Shadley, Stacey (Rob) Frederiksen, Ric (Char) Rilatos, Stephanie (Aaron) Susee. Robert's 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren were the joys of his life. He was often attending their sporting events, leading them on hunting/fishing excursions, sharing his love and knowledge of the outdoors or just doting on them. Robert is also survived by his sister Linda, countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that he considered family. Robert was preceded in death by his brothers Richard and Howard, sister Sherry, and parents Harold and Geneva Shadley.
A special thank you to the staff of the Portland VA Hospital for their loving care and support.
A private graveside service for family will be held at the Yankton Cemetery where Robert's final interment will be alongside his beloved twin, Richard. A celebration of life luncheon will be held at the St. Helens Elks Lodge on Saturday, March 2nd, at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Midway Veterinary Hospital Honey Boy Fund, a cause very dear to Robert and his love of dogs.
