Robert L. Sharp's Obituary
Robert “Bob” L. Sharp was born on August 24, 1937 in St. Helens, Oregon to Robert J. and Helen (Cole) Sharp. He died in St. Helens on December 8, 2013 at the age of 76.
Bob went to Nehalem grade school, attended McKenzie Schools and was a 1955 graduate of St. Helens High School. He loved sports and played half back for the high school football team; and helped them go to the state championships in 1953, ’54 and ’55.
After the Marine Corp, Bob went to work for Sears and Roebuck until 1972. Then he became self employed. Bob owned five bars; three in Portland: Jeanne’s Restaurant & Bar, Sewickley’s Edition, and Doodle Bug; and two in St. Helens: Bar Harbor, and Columbia Tavern. He put in a lot of long days. Over the years of being a bar owner, he heard lots of stories from people who frequented his establishments. They came to him for advice and an occasional scolding. He became a good listener and was careful never to judge.
Bob’s family was important to him. He loved them dearly. He also enjoyed being outdoors playing golf; hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his mother, Helen, wife, Gloria; brother, Ben; sons, Gordon and Robert; daughters, Leslie and Laura; 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens. A reception will follow at the Kozy Korner Restaurant.
