Ronald Wayne Chisum's Obituary
Our Dad, Ronald Wayne Chisum fought a hard and long battle with cancer and passed away peacefully in his home on September 7, 2018 surrounded by many loved ones. Dad was born November 30, 1948 in Happy Valley to Jimmy and Lois Chisum, just in time for the birth of the greatest Rock and Roll Era. Dad graduated from Clackamas High School in 1967. Dad married the love of his life and high school sweetheart Kathy Hayzlett Chisum in 1968, they then moved to St. Helens Oregon where he started working at Boise Cascade and shortly after was drafted into the Army, he courageously served our country in the Vietnam War. After coming home from the war, Dad spent the next 50 years raising three daughters while working for Boise Cascade before his retirement. Dad married Jan Adams Chisum in 2004, divorced in 2009, they remained great friends.
He was survived by his amazing three daughters and “The Big Deal” son in laws: Staci & Phil Dalton, Angie & Joe Baldwin, Sandy & Eric Wodesky. Grandchildren: Devyn & Jessie Peterson, Jay & Amber Jacobson, Austin Whitton, Dominic Piccolo, Darien & Tre Santangelo, Paige Boyd, Justin Boyd, Taylor Wodesky, Trevor Wodesky, Jessica Dalton and Josh Dalton. Great Grandchildren: Camryn, Fayth, Peyton, Mya and Elliana and coming to us soon, Lucy. As well as Jan’s family Rebel & Joe Steirer; Daren & Renee Babcock; grandkids: Lukas, Gabe, Oliver, Joey and baby boy Babcock.
He is also survived by his brother and best friend Lynn Chisum, sister Cathy Magnuson and brother Rob Smith and many nieces, nephews, close family and friends.
Dad joins in heaven his dad Jimmy Chisum, mom Lois Smith, stepdad Larry Smith & Scooter (his best buddy and our only brother).
Dad had a love for Texas Hold’em, whether it was at the Elks, Moose, his brother Lynn’s house or traveling to the beach for big $$ tournaments. He absolutely despised a pair of pocket aces. Dad was an avid collector of Elvis (Elvis would be honored), wild turkey and cars. Other passions were golfing and traveling.
His biggest love was the love of softball and coaching his girls. He was not only a dad to us but to many in the community. He was known to many friends, co-workers and family as, “Coach”, “Chickie” & “Chiz”. He was an amazing “Dad” & “Coach”!
If you were anywhere near the softball field, then this statement will ring true:
Chisum…..You’re outta here!!
Save us a spot Dad!
