Roy Vernon Strachan's Obituary
Roy Vernon Strachan was born July 23, 1923 in Barton, North Dakota, to John and Emmie Carter. He died September 21, 2004 in St. Helens, Oregon at the age of 81.
He was only 12 when his family moved to the St. Helens area. He graduated from the Condon High School and then entered the Navy in 1943. He was honorably discharged with several military honors in 1946. He came back to St. Helens and began work at Multnomah Plywood until retiring in 1980.
Roy married Mary Casey in 1951 and after her death in 1973 he married Jennie Carl Casey. They enjoyed clam digging, travelling and camping. Roy was a member of the Bushman Archers, Elks and Moose. He also liked to fish and hunt. Spending time with the grandchildren was also a favorite pasttime.
He is survived by his wife, Jennie; children: Vickie Warren, Julie Dusek, Connie Brooks of St. Helens; Mabel Riddle of Arizona; David Hill of Westport, OR; Rosalie Reynolds of Weston, OR; Ronnie Casey of Woodland, WA; and Barbara Buckley of Fresno, CA. Sisters Grace Collett of Rainier and Alice Pierce of St. Helens. He was preceded in death by his brother James. He has 21 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be Friday, September 23 at 11:00 am at Columbia Funeral Home. Burial will be at Bethany Cemetery in Warren. A reception will be at the Columbia Christian Center. Contributions made be made to the Alzheimers Association.
