Susan Dernbach
To my mom,
You were my best friend. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about you. You were the nicest and most giving person that I've ever known. You were always so humble of your achievements, so giving of your time, and always thought of others before yourself. You inspired me and I know that I'm a better person because of you. My achievements are yours and dads. When I take care of a stray dog, volunteer at the thrift shop, give coats to the homeless shelter, strive to do my very best at work, pitch in when someone needs help, or just smile and say hello to a stranger at the shopping mall, I think of you and know that it's BECAUSE OF YOU that I do what I do and am who I am. You made the kind of difference in this world that we all strive for in life!
I remember our shopping trips. I still have my wonderful high school graduation dress that you picked out for me and I thought was so special.
I remember you and dad visiting me just about everyplace that I lived during my 23 year Navy career. I remember you FLYING (which you NEVER do) to Orlando to see me for just about 24hours when I graduated from boot camp!
I remember how much we loved the holidays and how much I loved to go home for the holidays. The holiday movies, the decorations, the dinners, and,...yes,...the shopping.
I remember all of the camping trips all across the country; the campfires, the walks in the woods, the red flannel shirt, the roadside attractions, and the games.
I remember you helping me to look for houses on the internet. I finally purchased my first house a couple of years ago! It's just like what we talked about; you would love how it's decorated for the holidays!!
I remember when you were a teachers aid in my math class in the 1970's; the downside- you figured out that I was counting on my hands!; the upside- I finally learned my times tables.
I remember the trips to the zoos, wild animal parks, amusement parks, roadside attractions, ghost towns, museums, forts, national parks, and any other place that you and dad were so wonderful to take us to.
I remember our very special train trip together; I only wish we could have done it again.
I remember you! I miss you!
Love forever- Susan
