Shirley M Becker's Obituary
Shirley Myers Becker, of Scappoose, Oregon
On September 22, 2007, Shirley Becker lost her battle with cancer.
Shirley was born on July 18, 1936 to Jasper and Lila Bartholomew Myers.
She graduated from high school in Echo, Oregon in 1954. She graduated from Lewis and Clark College with a degree in nursing, and later attained a master's degree in social work from Washington University in St. Louis, MO.
In 1959 Shirley married Steve Nelson, who died unexpectedly in 1965. She worked for the Peace Corps for several years, and married Dr. Robert Snowe in 1969. Along with their son, Barry, they lived in Missouri and Brazil where they worked for Project H.O.P.E. They later divorced and Shirley moved with Barry to Portland, Oregon where she worked as a nurse and social worker.
Shirley married Eugene Becker in 1987. They enjoyed traveling and sailing together. Eugene passed away in 1993. Shirley continued to work in the health care profession until her retirement. She moved to Scappoose in 2003, and enjoyed quilting, cycling, and dancing.
Shirley was passionately devoted to causes in politics, social justice, and the welfare of animals.
Her son, Barry Snowe, and her brother Jerry Meyers, as well as several nieces and nephews survive her. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Jasper and Lila Myers; her brother, Chuck Myers; her sister, Janet Correa; and her husband Eugene Becker.
There will be a Memorial Gathering at the Springlake Community Center in Scappoose, Oregon on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 2:00 pm.
