Shirley Mae Smith's Obituary
Shirley Mae Bent Smith was born on February 26, 1935 in Tama, Iowa to Warren & Mildred Weaver Bent.
She died at her home in Warren, OR. on August 17, 2010 at the age of 75.
Shirley was on of seven children. She married Max Milo Smith on November 1, 1953 in Tama, Iowa. In January of 1955 they moved to Warren, OR. where she has lived for the past 55 years. Shirley was wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. One of the highlights of her life was her four grandsons. Shirley had a talent for sewing, which she put to good use sewing her grandkids many new clothes.
Gardening was one of her hobbies; she spent many hours working in her flower gardens. Shirley enjoyed many outdoor activities, such as a salmon fishing, and razor clamming with her family. She went on several hunting trips to Eastern Oregon with her husband Max and son David. She also looked forward to spending the wintermonths in their home in Desert Hot Spirngs, CA.
She always had a poodle or other small dog that went everywhere and was treated like on of the kids.
Survivors include: Husband of 56 years: Max Smith; Children: Debbie Axtell Barry, David Smith, Laurie Coughlin, and Sharon Smith; Grandchildren: David & Jeff Coughlin; Brian & Travis Axtell all of the local area. Siblings: Delores Kremenak of Bryan, TX.; Marilyn Anderson of Nevada, IA.; Warren Bent of Colorado Springs, CO.; Bob Bent of Elkader, IA.; Carol Alexander of Fort Collins, Co. and Sally Turbett of Robins, IA. and numerous nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Warren & Mildred Bent.
Funeral Service: Monday, August 23, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Columbia Funeral Home
Committal service & vault interment: Columbia Memorial Gardens.
