Obituary of Steve J. Uttich
A funeral service will be held, 3:00 PM, Monday, May 17th at Columbia Funeral Home, with committal and military honors at Fairview Cemetery, Scappoose, Oregon.
Mr. Uttich passed away, May 12th in Tacoma, Washington. He was 88.
Steve was born March 13, 1922 in Portland, Oregon to Mike and Rose Cubich Uttich, he was the youngest of two sons. He was raised in Yankton, Oregon, and attended St. Helens High School. As a young man he was a logger, worked at the local GM Dealership in St. Helens before doing electrical work in Scappoose. On March 19, 1943 Steve joined the US Army and served his country until November 12, 1945. On July 16, 1943 he married Morilles May Hamaker in Fresno, California, they were married for almost 67 years. It was in the mid-50's that he opened an Appliance and TV store in Scappoose. Later he joined the IBEW Local 449 and went to work in Idaho Falls, Idaho for Westinghouse. He retired from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyards, Bremerton, Washington in the early 1970's.
After retirement he and Morilles travelled quite a bit of the West coast and Alaska, settling in at Yuma, Arizona before moving to Tacoma area to be with family due to health reasons.
Steve is survived by his wife, son; Richard and daughter in law Bobby Uttich of Sarasota, Florida, Son; Kenneth Uttich of Idaho Falls, Idaho and daughter; Kathy & son in law Joe Mayesky of University Place, Washington. 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Mother, Father, his brother John and grandson Shawn.
