Steven Thompson Sickles
Steven was born in Ogden, Utah on March 16, 1947. He passed away at his home after a courageous 2 year battle against colon cancer on March 14, 2009 with his family at his side.
He grew up in Deer Island/Canaan area outside of St. Helens. He attended grade school in Deer Island, Junior and Senior High in St. Helens graduating in 1966. He attended Oregon State University and graduated with a mechanical engineering degree in 1971. He spent time working in California, Washington, and Oregon doing various jobs in construction as well as supervising in a foundry.
He worked in Springfield, Oregon for 12 years as maintenance superintendent for a chemical plant. He changed occupations and became a realtor in 2002 and returned to St. Helens. He worked for John L. Scott for about 4 years, and then opened his own Assist-2-Sell franchise, which he continued until he was no longer able to work.
Steven was on the City of St. Helens Planning Commission, a member of the local Elks, and an avid Beaver fan, especially during football season. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his father David Sickles and brother Jeff Sickles.
Steven is survived by wife Rosemary Sickles St.Helens, ex-wife Jill Lathers Portland sons Sam Sickles Marni of Hood River and Ben Sickles of Portland. Stepson Ron Schwirse of Portland, stepson Robert Schwirse Josie of Columbia City, stepdaughter Melanie Veach Tim of St.Helens, brother Mark Sickles Melody of Independence, brother Ken Candy of Dallas, brother Dennis Sickles of Falls City, brothers Mike and Bob Sickles of Klamath Falls, brother Bruce Sickles Darla of Falls City, sister Judy Sheets Mitch, brother Larry Sickles Barbara of Falls City, brother Tim of Falls City, brother Kevin Sickles Dianna of Falls City, sister Lori Sickles Laura of Falls City. Also surviving Steven is his mother Betty Sickles of Falls City, nine step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on March 21, 2009 at 2:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints , 2755 Sykes Road, St. Helens, Oregon
