Thelma Ellen Nelson's Obituary
Thelma E. Nelson passed away May 29th at a Portland Hospital. She was 79 years of age. Family to have a private gathering.
Thelma was born September 5, 1931 in Augusta, Kansas to Cecil Ray and Grace Ellen Southard Wood. She was their only child. Raised in Iowa, she graduated from Onawa High School.
In 1953 Thelma married Clarence Raymond Nelson on September 19th in Sioux City, Iowa.
She later worked for AT&T and later for the IRS at the Complaint Desk for over 10 years from 1973 -1983 in Des Moines, Iowa. After her husband retired in 1996 they enjoyed traveling, and travel they did. They visited Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England, Paris, Greece, the Panama Canal, New Zealand and Australia.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed the Lawrence Welk Show, loved watching her hummingbirds, played the organ and was a talented Bridge Player. She and her husband moved to St. Helens in 2000 to be closer to their daughter.
She is survived by her husband of over 56 years of marriage, daughter; Cyndi Furseth of St. Helens, granddaughter; Nicole Bishop, great Grandchildren; Michael and Chaina Morton and Great Grandson; Casey Morton.
