Vance - McManigal's Obituary
Vance McManigal was born on June 17, 1922 in Albin, Wyoming to George & Leona Chappell.
He was reared by Frank & Jessie McManigal from the age of four years old. He grew up in Thermopolis, WY. and Alliance NE during the depression, where he went to school with and eventually married his wife M. Doris McManigal on June 14, 1941 in Bridgeport, NE.
Vance joined the Army at age 21 served in WWII, as a Medical Technician Detachment 255 63rd Infantry Division in the European Theater of Operations. He was at the battle of the Bulge and toured Europe, France and Germany.
He worked at the Fir-Tex mill, Kaiser Permanente mill as a foreman, then Owens Corning Fiberglass as a foreman in St. Helens, OR., he retired in 1980 and supplemented his income with handyman jobs around town. His hobbies included wood working, making rocking horses, cedar chests, and lawn decorations and always working and fixing things for neighbors.
Preceding him in death are 2 sons in 1946, Wife in 2004, both fathers and mothers, four sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by three children: Mike "Mitch" McManigal, Sr. of Warren, OR.; Verlin McManigal of Whittier, CA. and Lis McManigal Harshbarger of St. Helens, OR.; 2 sisters and 1 brother; 5 grandchildren; Theresa McManigal Thunderburk of MO.; Tim Harshbarger of NY.; V. Tim McManigal of CA.; Melinda Harshbarger of OR. and Michael McManigal, Jr. of OR.; 5 great grandchildren in MO, CA & NY.
Memorial service: June 10, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Columbia Tribute Center.
Private interment: Bethany Memorial family plot-Warren, OR.
