Vaughn P. Phillips
Warren resident Vaughn P. Phillips better known as Vic, died June 6, 2008 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, at the age of 76, after a long illness with cancer.
Born in Seattle, Washington, February 20, 1932, he was the third son of John and Minerva Sorenson Phillips. His early childhood years were spent in the Seattle area before moving to Portland where he graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1950. He then enlisted in the United States Navy and served for years aboard a number of ships. Upon his discharge, he enrolled in what was then Portland State College and earned hi s bachelor's degree in business administration.
He worked in sales for Willamette Industries and Chase Bag Company prior to moving to St. Helens in 1965 where he took over the management and ownership of Phillips Motor Company, a dealership selling Fords, Lincoln's, and Mercuries. He was an active member of the St. Helens area and served as president of the Chamber of Commerce and was the charter president of Rotary Club.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his brothers Gordon J. and Robert Alan, and a daughter Laurie Phillips Jiles.
Vic is survived by his wife Myrna of the family home in Warren; his daughters Pamela Keuma of Palmer, Alaska, and Elizabeth Noll of Gig Harbor, Washington; his stepson Ron Harnden of Athena; his sister Grace Schwerdt of Beaverton; twelve grandchildren; and one niece and one nephew. He and Myrna also had the families of Craig and Colleen DeShazer and Mark and Christina Parsons whom they considered their local children. Their long-time friend Genevieve Howarth was their sponsor when they joined St. Frederic Catholic Church and was considered a family member as well.
Recitation of Rosary will be at 10:00 am Friday, June 13, 2008 at St. Frederic Catholic Church in St. Helens and the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am.
