Vernon E. Skipworth's Obituary
Vernon E. Skipworth was born on January 7, 1937 In Arion, Ohio to Earl & Wilma Mae Nance Skipworth.
He died at his home in St. Helens on April 8, 2010 at the age of 73.
When he was age two he and his family moved to Oregon. He grew up with his parents and six siblings on Sauvies Island and in Banks.
Vern worked at Alpenrose Dairy in his teen years for four years. At the age of 20 he enlisted in the National Guard, serving for 8 years and honorably discharged in 1966.
He was married to Marilyn Joyce Scott on May 6, 1958, they had six children.
Vern was a paper maker for Boise Cascade, employed there for 39 years and retiring in 2002 and very proud of it.
In 1997 He and Marilyn took in their granddaughter Sierra at 9 months old, she has been with them since and is thought of like a daughter.
After Vern retired from Boise he loved to fish, hunt and listen to country western music and watch country western movies. He will be greatly missed by his partner in crime, his grandson-Remy. He was a hard worker all of his life and was admired by many for this. He will be truly missed.
Survivors include: Wife: Marilyn Skipworth of St. Helens: Children: Carla Skipworth of Chowchilla, CA.; Vern Skipworth, Jr. of Arcadia, CA.; Dearld Skipworth of St. Helens; Lore Skipworth of Yacolt, WA.; Katrina Skipworth of Portland; Jennifer Skipworth of St. Helens; Siblings: Sharon Anderson & Juanita Riley both of St. Helens; Darlene Picka of Beaverton; Ron Skipworth of Washougal, WA.; numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.
Viewing & Visitation: 2-5 Monday
Funeral Service: Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 1:00 PM both at Columbia Funeral Home
Committal service & vault interment: Bethany Memorial Cemetery-Warren, Oregon.
