Obituary of Virgil Clifford Mays
A Graveside Service will be held, 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 12, 2010 at Columbia Memorial Gardens, Scappoose, Oregon. Virgil passed away at a local Portland Hospital January 6, 2011. He was 61 years old.
Virgil was born October 30, 1949 at Longview, Washington to Gordon Eugene and Regina Clara Janicki Mays, the eldest of four children. The family resided in Rainier, Oregon until Virgil was about 3 years old then moved to Portland where he attended school graduating from Benson Poly Tech in 1967. He joined the US Army in 1969 and served until 1971. Virgil was a Longshoreman for Local 8 for over 33 years before retiring. Virgil married Valorie Jo on February 14, 2002.
In 1999 Virgil moved from Carver, Oregon to Scappoose. He was active with the Canby Rod and Gun Club and Columbia County RC Fliers. Virgil was a private pilot, a mechanic, loved working on his hot rods, a tinkerer Fixer of things and a ham radio operator. Like his family said "Virgil was a wonderful friend, he was there always when you needed him."
Virgil is survived by his wife Valorie of Scappoose, children; Regina Hinkley of Tualatin, Gordon Mays of Columbia Falls, Montana and Joseph Mays of Hillsboro, Oregon, 8 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter, Mother, Regina Mays of Wylie, Texas, siblings; Dawn Harvey of Prescott Valley, Arizona, Randy Mays of Rowlett, Texas and Lori Haberberger of Wylie, Texas.
