Obituary for Virgil Alpheus Wellborn
Virgil Wellborn of St. Helens passed away August 6, 2014.
He was born July 5, 1931 in Portland, Oregon to Wilbur A. and Mildred E. Wellborn and raised in St. Helens. He began working as a log truck driver, then a bartender. He worked at Boise Cascade Papers in St. Helens for 22 years, in conjunction with, serving as the President of the A.W.P.P.W. He then worked for TriMet in the Risk Management Department until his retirement in 1993.
Virgil married Ellen Johnson in 1953. They moved to Warren, OR where they built their home and started their family. He then married Pat Sabrowski in 1972 and adopted her son. Lastly, he married Charlotte Foster (Johnson) in 1975.
Upon retirement, Virgil and Charlotte moved from Oregon in 1994 to Nevada. Then, per his children’s request, he moved back to Oregon in July of 2012, where he resided until his death.
Virgil enjoyed hunting, fishing, clam digging, camping at Bullard’s State Park and reading books by the campfire, cooking, traveling, coffee and conversation with his children and any time spent with his grandchildren.
Virgil is survived by his children; Ruth Wellborn, Lori Wellborn, Ãnna Wellborn, adopted child; Richard Sabrowski, step-children; Gregory Johnson, Ronda Dunn and Floydene Calhoon, grandchildren; Petra Kaiser, Saba Wellborn-Betew, Christopher Adams, Andrew Adams, Kendahl Johnson, Tiffany Johnson, Erik Calhoon, Kaitlyn Calhoon, great-grandchildren; Lauren Johnson, Maddox Johnson, Kullen Booker and Micah Adams. He is preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Charlotte in 2010 and granddaughter, Jocilyn Williams in 2006.
