Vivian Irene Snow's Obituary
Vivian Irene Snow of Scappoose, Oregon passed away peacefully on January 16, 2006 at the age of 76.
Vivian was born on her parent's farm near Leola, South Dakota on May 28, 1929. The 2nd youngest of 10 children, she had 7 sisters and 2 brothers. She attended the 1st through 8th grades as the only pupil in her grade, in a 1 room school house about 2 1/2 miles from the farm. Finishing high school in 1946, she soon met her husband-to-be and they were married in Leola, South Dakota on August 17, 1947. In 1948, Vivian and her husband Taylor moved to Scappoose where he began his teaching career in the Old Building, also known as "The Castle". They soon started a family, with son Leslie born in October of 1950, followed by son Kevin in October of 1952. She received her teaching degree from Portland State College in the Spring of 1959 and began teaching 2nd grade at Otto Petersen Elementary in the fall of 1959. She began her tenure at Petersen, then transferred to 2nd grade at Grant Watts Elementary, retiring in 1987 after 28 satisfying years.
Vivian is survived by son Leslie Snow and companion Sheryl Adams of Scappoose; son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Gloria Snow of Warren; granddaughter Melissa Beisley and great grandsons Cody, Colton, and Canon of St. Helens; brother Edgar Heupel of Aberdeen, South Dakota; Harold Heupal of Gresham, Oregon, sisters Alma Vilhauer of Polson, Montana; Viola Smolnisky of Leola, South Dakota; Annie Quinn of Rapid City, South Dakota; and Irene Lightfoot of Watertown, South Dakota.
Vivian was preceeded in death by her husband Taylor in 1999, and sisters Olivia Young of Scappoose, Lillian Rath of Long Lake, South Dakota, and Irma Muhlbier of Rapid City, South Dakota.
Memorial Services were held at Grace Lutheran Church in Scappoose, Oregon. On Friday, January 2o, 2006 at 2:30 p.m.
Remembrances may be given to the Portland Rescue Mission or Northwest Medical Teams.
