Walter Stanley Nelson's Obituary
Roxy is the son of Neil and Dagmar Orm Nelson who were emigrants from Denmark. He grew up in Portland. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942, was a proud veteran of WWII where he served on the USS Platt, USS Edgecomb, USS Charles J Badger and the USS Hobby. He received an honarable discharge in 1954.
Upon leaving the Navy, he was employed by the US Army Corp of Engineers where he spent many years on the Columbia River aboard the Hopper Dredge Biddle until his retirement in 1973.
He was a man of simple needs with a depth of knowledge. He was an avid outdoorsman and a voracious reader of American history. He leaves behind a community of friends that will miss one of the most lively, caring and endearing characters they have ever met.
He is survived by his sister Katie Causgrove of Portland, Or; nephew Kent Nelson and his wife Susan; neice Rhonda Hughes and her children; neices Nicole and Andrea; sister-in-law Olga Nelson and her children; nephew Mitchel Nelson and wife Signe; neice Julie Nelson and husband Tom Onergan; neice Lisa Nelson and husband Mike Grizzle and his most dear friend Marge Ricketts Honey.
