W.E. "Stub" Johnson's Obituary
W.E. "Stub" Johnson was born on July 12, 1925 in Billings, Montana to William & Elfreda Kasube Johnson.
He died at his home in St. Helens surrounded by his family on November 2, 2006 at the age of 81.
Stub was educated in Norris & Billings Montana, graduating from Billing High School in 1942.
At age sixteen he started rodeoing. In his career he calf & team roped, was a pickup man and a judge. In his later years he was a chute boss for a number of rodeos in the Northwest.
He moved to Oregon in 1943. He met Gerildyn and on September 3, 1948 they married in Vancouver, WA. In 1950 they moved to St. Helens and have lived in the same house since.
Stub and Gerildyn were members of St. Frederic Catholic Church, Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association PRCA, Oregon Thoroughbred Breeders, U.S. Team Roping Association, Cowboys Turtle Association CATA. He was one of the first members and gold card holder of the PRCA.
They were horse owners and breeders, in 2004-2005 they represented Oregon in Lexington, Kentucky as owner/breeders of the year.
In 2004 he was inducted into the St. Paul Rodeo Hall of Fame. In 2005 he was honored in The Dalles Rodeo as being the shute boss from its inception and was honored for his participation in the Ellensburg, WA. rodeo.
He is survived by Wife Gerildyn; Daughter & Son-in-law: Carolyn & Brien Bramfield of Craigmyle, Alberta; Daughter-in-law: Linda Johnson of San Jose, CA.; Siblings: Ted Johnson of Los Angeles, CA.; Margaret Cavinaw of Portland, OR.; 2 grandchildren & thier spouses: Kelly & Scott Shimp, Billy & Jodi Bramfield; 2 great grandchildren: Blake Shimp and Rhett Bramfield. He was preceded in death by a sister: Tudie Bolster in 2001; and a son: Don in 1992.
