William Roy Bailey

William “Bill” Bailey of Scappoose, Oregon died on October 19, 2017 at the age of 83. Bill was born October 21, 1933 in Clay, Kentucky to Erceal and Lily “Mae” (Jones) Bailey. He grew up and attended school in Clay before he moved to Lake Chelan, Washington where he graduated from high school. After he graduated from high school Bill joined the Coast Guard, he served 13 years and was a crew member for the USCG Search and Rescue air branch. He then transferred into the Army Reserves to finish out his time before he retired from the military.
Bill then took up coal mining, after a short time as a miner he was injured and returned to school to become a machinist at Madisonville Trade School. Bill worked as a machinist – tool and die maker at General Electric for 20 years.
Bill married Vonda Louise Miller. They were married for 25 years before they divorced. In 2000 he moved from Dawson Springs, Kentucky to Scappoose, Oregon where he lived for 17 years until his death. In his spare time, he enjoyed flying his plane, wood working and riding his motorcycle.
He is survived by his children; Keith Bailey, Ruth Miners, Jack Bailey, Rhonda Stein, Tim Bailey and Kevin Bailey as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Erceal and Mae Bailey, two children; Bill Roy Bailey and Jaelynn Sizemore and his brother Jack Bailey.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens, Oregon.
A graveside will be held in Clay, Kentucky in the spring of 2018.
