William D. Evert's Obituary
William D. Evert was born on October 29, 1927 in Portland, Oregon to Cyrus & Mabel Hunt Evert.
He died in a Portland hospice center on June 19, 2008 at the age of 80.
He was educated in Scappoose, lived in North Portland, Scappoose and LaPine, Oregon. He went into the merchant marines at age 17 and then was drafted into the Army 11th Airborne serving from March of 1946 to April of 1947.
He married Mary Hlavinka in St. Helens in 1949, celebrated 58 1/2 years together.
He worked for the Boise paper mill for 33 1/2 years, a strong union man and member of AWPPW Local #1.
They were snowbirds for 16 years, traveling with thier 5th Wheel trailer. He loved to garden and he volunteered at the Scappoose Senior Center, driving folks to doctors and hospital appointments. He loved to socialize and make people laugh.
Survivors include: Wife: Mary Evert; Son: Bill Evert both of Scappoose; Daughter: Patty Rossi of Spokane, WA.; 3 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; preceded in death by a son: Douglas in 1997.
Viewing & visitation: Friday, June 20, 2008 from 1-6, Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM both at Columbia Funeral Home-St. Helens
Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 10:00 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church-Scappoose, OR.
Committal service & interment: Columbia Memorial Gardens Cemetery-Scappoose, OR.
