William E. Kroll's Obituary
William Earl Bill Kroll was born March 4, 1933 in Duluth, Minnesota, the son of Theodore Gustave Kroll and Pearl Mary Rose LaFave Kroll. He passed away August 13, 2006 at Legacy Emanuel Hospital, at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 9 days, following a heart attack. He moved from Duluth to St. Helens, Oregon in 1946. He attended schools in St. Helens and at PCC. He was married twice before marring his wife, Patrea Ruth Kristensen on 9/28/68 at the First Christian Church, St. Helens. From his first marriage, he had two children, Ricky Lee and Vickie Lynn. From his second marriage he had a daughter, Tammy Marie. He and Patrea had two sons Robert Andrew and Jeffrey Theodore. He was so happy to actively share in the life of his grandchildren, Marrissa Kaye, Michael Andrew and Megan Patrea Kroll. They were the light of his life. Bill was raised in the Catholic faith, attending grade school at St. Fredericks, before becoming an active member in the First Christian Church, St. Helens. He enjoyed helping with the yard work there and especially loved singing in the choir until he was physically unable to. In his early years he worked at the Virtex Mill, Western Siding Division, in St. Helens. He then became a reserve police officer in St. Helens and was chief of Police in Scappoose from 1960-1965. He served in the OR Nat. Guard for 9 years. He worked one year as a welder fro the railroad and returned to his love of being a police officer. He worked in the St. Helens police department as an officer, Corporal and Sergeant from 1967-1978. He then worked for St. Helens School District as a custodian for 11 years until his first heart attack. He has been retired since 1991. His early hobbies included hunting and fishing and golf. Later, it was fishing, camping, boating, woodworking and sports. He coached St. Helens Little League for many years. He could do almost any wood working project and for several years made burl clocks and coffee tables selling them at weekend fairs and giving them to friends and family. He also loved visting and drinking coffee with many friends and as long as able would go out twice a day with his brother and friends to socialize over a cup of coffee. Preceding him in death were his parents, his daughter Vickie Lynn Krill and his grandson Andrew Earl Kroll. Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 38 years, Patrea Kroll. His sons Rick Kroll of Sweet Home, Robert Kroll and his finance Erin Campbell and granddaughter Victoria Campbell; Jeffrey Kroll and his wife, Katie Kroll and grandchildren Marissa Kaye Kroll, Michael Andrew Scott Kroll and Megan Patrea Kroll of St. Helens. His daughter Tammy Parkinson of Nehalem. Two step grandchildren, Katie Hopper and Nikki Corbin aand her children, Shyanne and McKenna. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Linda Kroll of St. Helens, a nephew William Kroll and a niece Patricia Shaffer of Issawuah, WA and great nephew David Kroll. Aunts, Blanche Sherlock and Ethel Brown and uncle, Ronald Lease as well as many cousins in this area and in Minnesota also survive him. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, 8/19 at 11:00 AM at the First Christian Church, 185 South 12th Street, St. Helens, Oregon. Remembrances may be sent, in his name, to First Christian Church.
