William Lee Smith
June 22, 1937 - August 21, 2014
William L. Smith of St. Helens passed away August 21, 2014 at the age of 77.
William was born June 22, 1937 to George Lee and Evelyn Mabel (Ware) Smith in Portland, Oregon. Will grew up in Kinzua, Oregon where he worked at the Kinzua Mill. He attended college at OIT where he received his associate’s degree and he also served in the United States Army and received a sharp shooter award. In 1964 he married Dixie Fay Shell in Milwaukie, Oregon they moved to St. Helens in 1966. Will worked for Boise Cascade for over 30 years and retired in 2001. In his spare time he coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball and Fast Pitch Girls Softball. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
He is survived by his son Michael Smith and his daughter Deborah Smith-Taylor. He was preceded in death by his wife Dixie.
A viewing will be held Friday, August 29 from 4-6 pm at Columbia Funeral Home with a
Funeral on Saturday August 30, 2014 at 11:00 am at Columbia Funeral Home.
