Al Tumlinson's Obituary
Al Tumlinson was born on February 17th, 1964 in Honolulu, HI to Alvin Tumlinson and Gwendolyn Pinto. Through out his childhood and teenage years, Al and his 4 siblings we're raised in Palolo Housing then shortly moved to Punalu'u where he met his loving and beautiful wife Alexandra "Kapua" Manners. He attended Kahuku High School on the North Shore of Oahu and graduated in 1982.
They then had their oldest daughter, Kehaulani and shortly decided it was time to start their own lives. Al and Kapua started their family young with a total of 4 children before deciding to tie the knot on April 8th, 1990. They decided to move their family to Oregon for a better life in December of 1992. They settled down in Aloha. His passion for Island Style foods we're strong and he decided to open their first fast food restaurant called Hawaiian Island Sidewalk Café in Forest Grove. They had several locations through out the years and finally settled down in Columbia County. First having a restaurant in Scappoose then relocating to St. Helens. He also had a passion for music starting a band called Kanak Attack, which became Portland's #1 Hawaiian-Reggae band.
Al passed away on the morning of June 19th, 2012 in his home while in his sleep. He was 48 years old. Al will be remembered as a hard working, dedicated, caring, loving, joyful husband, dad and papa. He leaves behind his wife Kapua of 30 years, his two daughters' Kehaulani Tumlinson-Manners Jacob Feliciano, Ku'uipo DeGrand Leroy DeGrand, his sons Kanale Tumlinson Stephanie Jensen, Keali'I Tumlinson Chrissy Hanlon; his four grandchildren: Tatileana DeGrand, Khiana Tumlinson, Mason Tumlinson-Hanlon and Baby Jayden Tumlinson-Hanlon. Also his hanai adopted son Kawai Niau.
Al is also survived by his parents, his two sisters, Deborah and Tina, and his brother, Duke, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Sarah.
His celebration of life will be held at Hawaiian Island Café and Catering Co. located in Olde town St. Helens at 295 Strand Street on July 8th, 2012 at 3pm. Donations to the family to help with funeral arrangements can be made at the family's restaurant listed above.
We love you dad, you will always be in our hearts and our thoughts. There is not one day that goes by that we do not think or talk about you. You touched our lives in so many ways, words cannot describe what kind of impact this has put on all of us. You may be gone but you're still with us in spirit. We will keep your dream alive. Thank you so much for everything you have done for us, now we know, we have a guardian angel to watch over us. We love you always and forever.
