Andy Daniel May Jr. "Dan" passed away on April 6, 2017. He was 84.
Dan was born on December 24, 1932 to Andrew and Alice May in Portland, Oregon. He grew up in McMinnville and moved to St Helens before joining the U.S. Coast Guard.
He later worked as a meat cutter in St. Helens and then ran a successful local retail business, May's Variety/Department Store, with his wife June for several years until retirement.
Dan loved visiting and spending time with friends! He was a member and trustee of the St, Helens Elks Lodge, where he was one of four remaining charter members. He was also a member of the Moose Club and the Rotary Club. He belonged to the Travel Club for years as well. One of his proudest accomplishments was starting the local Toy and Joy Auction.
His death came just eight days after the death of his beloved wife of 50 years, June. He is survived by his five children and their spouses: Laura of Sandy, Oregon, Randy and Illine of St. Helens, Oregon, Jeff of Goble, Oregon, Doreen and Ken of Mesa, Arizona and Michelle and Bob of St. Helens, Oregon. Andy is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. along with two sisters Mary Jane and her husband Dick of Richland, Washington and Marilyn Fitzpatrick of Palm Springs, California.
An Elks Lodge Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the St. Helens lodge.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to be made to the local Toy and Joy Auction.
