Carolyn Mae Edwards' Obituary
Carolyn Edwards passed away peacefully at a memory care facility in St. Helens, Oregon on February 15th.
Born in Portland October 17, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Ralf and Vida Couch.
Carolyn grew up in Northeast Portland and attended Grant High School. She was an active member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at Oregon State College. There she met her husband, Allen Edwards, and they were married June 17, 1951.
After moving with Al to Texas, Arizona, and California while he served in the United States Air Force, they settled in Portland to raise their family of five children.
Carolyn was a loving wife and mother who gave much of her time to her children's schools, Girl Scouts, Assistance League of Portland, Cedar Hills Community Church and other organizations.
While volunteering her time for the Assistance League, she spent many hours making "Life Story Books" for children in foster care. Carolyn was talented in sewing, quilting, knitting, needlepoint, gardening and photography providing many special handmade gifts to her lucky children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and more.
Carolyn loved nature and the outdoors, and enjoyed time with her family and friends at their house in Cannon Beach. She also enjoyed sailing on many memorable trips with her family around the San Juan Islands as a member of the renowned Northern Fleet. Carolyn was an avid and accomplished golfer. She along with Al were long time members of the Portland and Astoria Golf Clubs where they enjoyed socializing and golfing with many friends. They even traveled the world to explore their favorite sport together. She volunteered at many golfing events and ultimately served as the President of the Oregon Women's Golf Association in 2004.
Carolyn is survived by her sons Butch and Douglas, and daughters Gayle Kervin, Jody Knauf, and Linda Falvey; by her 11 grandchildren Chris Bowes, Carl Edwards, Justin and Kevin Edwards; Jim, Sean and Tommy Kervin; Mitchell and Kelly Knauf; Tyler and Megan Falvey. She is preceded in death by husband, Allen Carl Edwards Jr., brother, Richard T. Couch and grandson, Matthew Allen Kervin.
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 3rd, at Cedar Hills United Church of Christ, 11695 Southwest Park Way, Portland.
