Dennis Eugene Gump's Obituary
Dennis passed away March 4th just South of Scappoose. He was 53 years old.
Dennis was born January 3, 1958 in Hillsboro, Oregon to Jimmie Wendil and Marilyn Dawn Irene Bare Gump, the youngest of four children. He was a lifelong resident of St. Helens, graduating in 1976.
On August 13, 1983 he married Sally Lee Schatz at Sunset Park Community Church, St. Helens.
Dennis was a Postal Carrier for the United States Postal Service since September 28, 1985 and last worked out of the Evergreen Station.
Dennis was active in our community and was involved with many of his son's school projects or activities. Dennis helped work on the St. Helens Amphitheater, volunteered working on the 13 Nights on the River for several years. Dennis loved music and assisted with his son's involvement with band since the 6th grade either as a chaperone or helping putting together meals for the kids.
He attended the St. Helens Police Academy and was a volunteer with the CERT Program.
While Sally enjoyed and loved animals of all kinds from dogs and cats, to birds, lizards, and chickens, Dennis lovingly put up with all of them. He relaxed by gardening and grew many species of flowers. His latest project was perfecting his gardening techniques.
A computer wizard, many a person would call Dennis to help and Dennis would spend hours getting computers up and working again.
Bandon, Oregon was a favorite spot for Sally, Dennis, and Patrick and they took many a trip there to enjoy the beach with their dogs.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 27 years Sally, son Patrick of St. Helens, siblings; Wendell Pam Gump, Gary Ann Gump both of Bend, Dawn Randy Wilson of Athens, Alabama; brother-in laws; Bruce Gwen Schatz of The Dalles and Albert Joyce Schatz of Hebo, Oregon, numerous nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.
