Ellen O. Sanford's Obituary
Ellen O. Sanford was born on September 7, 1930 in Bismarck, N. Dakota to Andrew & Inga Skaaren Granli.
She died at a Portland hospital on August 28, 2009 at the age of 78.
Ellen attended schools in Arnegard, N.D. and graduated in 1948. She went on to marry Melvin Sanford there on September 11, 1949.
They moved to Seattle in 1950, then to N. Portland in 1965 and Deer Island in 1978. Melvin preceded her in death on 1/6/1989.
She worked at convenience store in Portland, a bartender at Long Fellows, the B&M tavern and the Kozy Korner. Her last job was with Columbia Sportswear where she worked for 5 years as a quality control manager.
Ellen was raised in the Lutheran denomination and her interests included: helping at the senior center, music-she played trumpet in high school, telling jokes, animals, she grew up on a farm and had a horse named "Silver", and most of all being with family, grand and great grandchildren.
Survivors include: Children: Dan Sanford of St. Helens; Gayle Peterson of Rochester, WA.; Gary Sanford of Hobbs, New Mexico; Terri Cook of Mt. Vernon, WA.; Siblings: Arlene Pedersen of New London, MN.; Borgne Renbarger of Watford City, N. Dakota; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren.
