Elsie Edna Wilson's Obituary
Elsie (Sundquist) Wilson, 83, of Deer Island passed away January 8th, 2024.
Elsie was born July 13, 1940, in Bismarck, ND. She grew up on her parents’ farm between Wilton and Regan with her sister Ann. She graduated Wilton high school in 1957 as valedictorian. She went on to get her teaching certificate and then became a teacher. In March of 1960 she married Leonard Wilson from Wing, ND. Later that year they started their own family. Throughout the 60’s they completed their family with 4 children. Elsie stopped teaching and focused on raising their four children. The family lived in several states, traveling for Leonard’s work and, finally calling Oregon home in 1974. With new roots put down they started growing. Leonard and Elsie owned a small country store/gas station in Deer Island which was a blessing to many in the community. Elsie loved the people that were so friendly. In the early 80’s they ended their time at the store, after which Elsie became a bookkeeper for Clark Signs. She enjoyed her time at Clark Signs and worked there until her retirement in 2006.
Through the years Elsie enjoyed many things to occupy her time. She was an excellent cook (but would never admit it). She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, and most of all her family. She excelled at being a spectacular mother. She was famous for sending cards to many people on all occasions. Elsie is also known for her huge heart, gentle ways, and kindness towards all.
Elsie is survived by her sister Ann (Rodney) Peterson; 3 children Sherry Paladeni, Julie (Steve) Decious, and Dale (Carla) Wilson; 3 grandchildren Jeremy (Christal) Wilson, Brianna Decious, and Rochelle Decious; numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends that loved her.
Elsie was preceeded in death by her parents, husband, son, son in-law, and many other loved ones.
Services to be held January 18, 2024, at 1pm at Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens, Oregon. There will be a separate service at a later date in North Dakota.
There will be no visitation or burial services.
