Frances H. Haselton's Obituary
Frances Haselton, loving mother and grandmother died Sunday, August 29th at the age of 90 years, in Beaverton, OR.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 3rd at 10am - at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR. She will be buried alongside her husband of 50 years, William R. Hamilton
Frances was born in the small town of Claremont, New Hampshire on November 8, 1919 - to her parents Frank and May Houghton. Her father tragically passed away before she was born, and her mother May reared her in the years that followed.
After graduating high school, she attended one year of college before meeting and marrying the love of her life, William Robert "Bob" Hamilton in 1940. Not long afterwards, the couple welcomed the arrival of three children, Bill, Jim and Susie. After leaving New Hampshire, the family moved to Florida and California, before finally settling in Salem, OR. In 1965, Frances and Bob moved north to Scappoose and St. Helens, OR, where they spent the remainder of their days together. Bob died in 1991, and Frances later married a childhood friend, Robert Haselton in Lynden Center, Vt. After his death she returned to St Helens, OR.
Frances had a long and rich life. She loved her family and friends - and was a dedicated teacher to many. Along with instructing piano for many years, she delivered Sunday school lessons to children and young adults at her church homes in Salem and Scappoose. She was a voracious reader - consuming up to six books a week - and joked that she had read every book in the Scappoose library. She also had a passion for fishing, and even had a special purse to hold all of her fishing gear. Her wry wit, warm smile and open acceptance of everyone, earned her the love and respect of many, and she will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Haselton is survived by her sons, William R. Hamilton, Jim Hamilton - and her daughter, Susan Adams; along with 7 grandchildren Kristi, Greg, Chris, Josh, Nick, Sam and Rachel and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Robert "Bob" Hamilton and her second husband, Robert Haselton.
Arrangements are with Columbia Funeral Home of St. Helens, OR.
