Gertrude Marie Walters' Obituary
Gertrude Walters passed away in the company of her daughters, Friday evening, October 26th in Scappoose, Oregon, she was 94 years old.
Gertrude Marie Walters was born, February 22, 1918 in Jud, North Dakota the second youngest of twelve children born to George and Marie Bohnet Kronwald.
Raised and schooled in the Edgely & Jud area, she moved West in 1937 where she resided in the Yakima area. While working as a waitress she met the love of her life and on February 4th of 1938 she married Roy Dee Long. From this marriage they had five children.
They were married for 38 years before Roy preceded her in death in March of 1975. She later married Oren Walters; he too preceded her in 1982.
Gertrude and Roy moved to Toppenish in 1938 where she was employed at the Del Monte Cannery and for over 35 years worked at Safeway retiring in 1984. She was one of the founding members of the Toppenish Eagles Women's Auxiliary Lodge #2229 serving her community for over 70 years. She has been a life member of the Methodist Church and was involved in the women's ministries in Toppenish and when she moved to Columbia County attended 1st United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed reading, cribbage, pinochle, traveling and her visits to family. She also loved her animals Misty and her last dog Abby who passed away in April this year.
Gertrude is survived by her children and their spouses; Laura Paul Liddell of St. Helens, George Martha Long of King George, VA, Rose Odess of Anchorage, AK, Ellen Larry Jovanovich of Arlington, WA and Robert Long of Ford, WA, 6 grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren.
